Children's Books

We have a large library of books in  Portuguese for children. The books were donated by the Carvalho Family. We will be forever grateful to them.

Borrow for free to read with your kids at home  and help them keep the language fluency.

Event 6: April 23, 2016 - Theme: Spring

Activities in this event

Storytelling: SUNY student Alexandra Agiliga tells the story of "Tiradentes" and plays a memory game with the children.

Reading: "Cobra Versus Lagarto" (Alexandra Rodopoulos) - The child Diego Carvalho does the reading.

Art & Crafts: Building "o galinho" and planting flowers with Lucia Arsky and SUNY students.

 




















Event 5: April 9, 2016 - Theme: Music





Activities in this event

Ice-breaking: We sing "Parabéns Pra Você" to all who are celebrating their birthdays this month.

Reading: Lucia Arsky reads "A Casa" (Vinícius de Moraes).

Singing: Tarcísio Ramos and SUNY students present some Capoeira songs.

Workshop: Tarcísio Ramos teaches about some Brazilian musical instruments.

 

Event 4: March 26, 2016 - Theme: Capoeira

Activities in this event

Nursery Rhyme: "Fui no Tororó" - Prof. Ana Paula Dugan led us to sing this Brazilian rhyme with the children.

Game: "O Jogo das Orelhas" - a Portuguese game with the SUNY student Alexandra Dias.

Workshop: Learning about Capoeira with the UAlbany Capoeira Group.

 

Event 3: March 05, 2016 - Theme: Sports

Activities in this event

Nursery Rhymes: "Ciranda Cirandinha" and "Não Atire o Pau no Gato" with Prof. Ana Paula Dugan.

Games: "Macaco no Meio" guided by the SUNY students Reece Williams and Jovaun Buchanan.

Reading: "Ronaldinho Gaúcho", a comic book read by Prof. Ana Paula Dugan.

Workshop: Learning about soccer with SUNY the students Philip Person and Nicolas Solabarrieta.

Coloring: "Sports" figures, guided by Prof. Denise Osborne.

 

Event 2: Feb 20, 2016 - Theme: Africa

Activities in this event

Nursery Rhymes: "Ciranda, Cirandinha" and "Roda Cotia" with Prof. Fernanda Burgath.

Games with SUNY students: "Pato, Pato, Ganso, Ganso" with Ominayzha; "I See" with Alanis; "Simon Says"/"Mestre Manda" with Mitchel.

Storytelling: "O Jacaré Bangão" - Nadia Abreu, a Master's student from the College of Saint Rose, tells us a traditional legend from her birthplace, in the African Continent, the city of Bengo, in Angola.

Nursery Rhyme: Nadia Abreu also teaches us to dance and sing a traditional Angolan rhyme.

Dancing: The child Fernanda Pinho shows us an African Dance she learned with her mother.

 

Event 1: Feb 6, 2016 - First Portuguese Reading Time

Reading: "O Menino Maluquinho" (Ziraldo) with the child Diogo Carvalho.

Play: "The telephone"/ "Telefone Sem Fio" with Prof. Fernanda Burgath.

Reading: "Menina Bonita do Laço de Fita" (Ana Maria Machado) with the child Fernanda Pinho.

Game: "Find the Animal" and coloring pictures with SUNY students.
